Immunisation and vaccinations for your child
Vaccinations protect children from certain diseases, and they are a simple, safe, and effective method of prevention. A vaccine carries very small risk compared to the serious health risks associated with these diseases. By immunising children (and adults) against harmful infections before they are exposed to them in the community, they will be protected from these illnesses. Under the Department of Health's National Immunisation Program, vaccines are provided to babies and young children.
